once. when i got my first computer back in 2007.. i bought a stupid fake security program (one of my local computer shop peoples told me i needed to download a security program so i went home and did so, i was so illiterate with computers back then, i ended up downloading a fake and didn't know it.. i didn't know about  legit programs like Avast or AVG at the time, and i didn't know about such scams either until i did some research within that same week)

I ALWAYS USE A SITE CHECKER  BEFORE DOWNLOADING ANYTHING ON MY LAPTOP

THEY WILL KNOW IF IT'S SUSPECT OR KOSHA

I did get a large security badge across my screen and ask me for money to remove it, I asked PC World and they wanted £160 and I thought I would try to remove it ....which I surprised myself and removed it...

Surprisingly most of these SCAMS can be removed by US but I think some Panic and turn to Professionals and pay thru the Nose for them to fix it.

There's lots of help out there on the Web and its surprising what we can remove. Fortunately most of us have alternative access to the Net if it's a really bad one that blocks the infected computer.

I got a Virus years ago when I  clicked on a link on an email supposedly from Ebay
They took CONTROL of my Laptop , just like Remote Support do
I saw they were in my emails , opening them one by one.

I got straight on the phone and froze my Bank accounts and changed all my email addresses , was very Lucky I stopped them in their tracks.

Had to take my Laptop back to Factory settings but that was a small price to pay, be it a damn inconvenience.

Now I always verify any email I'm unsure of and don't just click aimlessly.

NO ! Not they haven't tried but I've been on these things for many years. My favorite one is where they call and say : I'm Mike Smith from Microsoft Tech Support ! I love to lead them on and then laugh. Microsoft doesn't call anyone ! Never happen here !

As soon as I've identified scammers (usually in the first 5 seconds) I ask them to hold for a moment, then put down the phone. I go back from time to time with another "Just a second" and see how long I can keep them on before they get fed up and try to find another sucker.

No but my Fella got the Fright of his Life a Couple of Years back when some Scam told him his Laptop had been froze for Investigation into Child Pornography.

As soon as I saw it I knew it was a Scam , even though it looked very official., they even took his photo and posted it on the screen page

I went on my Laptop , found a Forum , where so many had been hit by this latest SCAM and unlocked his Laptop for him after a few hours of searching for the right info.

I'm Good in a Crisis  lolz   CK Freaked out and I don't blame him.

I had the same one pop up on mine. They wanted three hundred dollars by a certain time - with the time ticking on the website - or they would report me to the State Patrol or FBI or some such. I'd never had such a thing pop up before - scared me. I was completely locked out. So when he went to work that day, my son mentioned it and several coworkers told him it was a scam. I found someone to remove it without forking over $300. It took him a while to remove it, but glad I didn't fall for that scam.

That's why I clocked it was a Scam Danae ,  apart from the fact I know and Trust my Guy and know how Passionate he is about the Scum on the Internet.
They wanted £200  to unlock his Laptop and yes the clock was ticking.

IF EVER YOU COME ACROSS A THREAT , GET ON ANOTHER LAPTOP AND ENTER THE SITE LINK AND I BET YOU WILL FIND A FORUM OF ANGRY PEOPLE WHO HAVE ALSO HAD TO DEAL WITH THAT THREAT.

I stopped my Nan emptying out her Bank account years back (only just) , She found some Lottery Scam and was about to give them her info.
