The student violated a cardinal rule:

NEVER let a liberal professor know anything about you that runs counter to the liberal party line.

Damned skippy.  When I was in college (both times, actually) it was understood that the success of one's academic career was predicated on psyops; of parroting everything a professor said regardless of one's disparate viewpoints.

Things may be different in Europe but, here, College isn't an open crucible of debate where one can be at loggerheads with his/her mentors as a matter of routine.  It's an indoctrination center where the objective is to get a piece of paper which demonstrates that an aspirant can work and play well with the status quo.
