I mean pillow for sleeping in bed.  Should I buy an old fashioned feather pillow, a pillow with foam chips in it, a solid foam pillow, or one of the new memory pillows I see advertised?  Why that specific? easier on the neck, back, etc? (I sleep on my side, does this make a difference?)

I really don't know the answer to that.  In my case, I sleep so soundly that the kind of pillow doesn't really matter; I'm dead to the world until morning.  I sleep on my side too.  :)

I wish I could give you a good answer but I've had so many different pillows over the tears that they all seem the same. I sleep on my side also. These companies all say they have the best but I sure haven't found the best yet. Good luck and let me know what you decide on because I'm always looking for a good pillow!

I've never found one worth a damn either. We tried the expensive ones and they weren't any good either. Doesn't seem like any of them last!

Well, I went and got a foam chip pillow. The old fashioned feather pillows are way too expensive and must be dry cleaned. The solid foam I was afraid to try as I like a thin pillow. The Memory ones and fancy tv pillows are too expensive.

I'll have to give those a try then.

Neither could I tell; I slept with and without pillow - and with various kinds of pillows, but I couldn't tell which was the best.

BTW, I also prefer to sleep on my side.
