Guessing Game

Once I’d finished reviewing my daughter’s homework, I gave her an impromptu quiz.

“What is a group of whales called?” I asked.

“I’ll give you a hint—it sounds like something you use to listen to music.”

“An iPod?” she guessed.

“Close,” I said.

“But what I’m thinking of is a little smaller.” “A Shuffle!”

???

I thought Shuffle is an app that hides your true phone number or email address behind an alias. Not sure what that has to do with a pod of whales.

O'Kay, O'Tink...here for your elucidation, sxs here, L to R, you see the iPod Shuffle vs. the iPod Nano vs. the iPod Touch 4G...(sheesh! :D  <3)

LOL, I never heard of the iPod Shuffle before.  :D

Lol, T(h)ink, Virginia got your answer - at least for the multi-purpose pocket computers

:):angel::D:D.

:D :D :D

by

@Tink : I guess they were around in 2015. Doesn't look like they stayed around long either.

Well truthfully O'Tink, I had not heard of the iPod Shuffle either (sounds like a dance craze?)...but I thought I would try to sound good...superior, and looking down my nose...(sniffing and all)...I actually Googled the whole thing!

Marianne, while laughing at your story I was recalling an episode from the Old Days of Ask.com, the first Q/A site I ever found...some youngster asked a special question for the Old Folks, "What did you do to have fun before the days of computers?"

Well it went on for pages and pages and pages...skipping rocks in the pond, floating down the river on an inner tube, excursions in the woods - all kinds of outdoor stuff with companions, much of which is not really even available much anymore...  <3

Don't forget hopscotch, Virginia:D

by

omg hopscotch DEF unforgettable, and all that!

by

Lol, Virginia, indeed, we had no computers, no mobile phones, etc. - but we read books ...

:)<3

By the way, was it AskIt ?

Too bad that this site was closed down so suddenly, without explanation.

by

Marianne, the name of the site was www.ask.com.

It was formerly a Google-type search engine called AskJeeves, which is how I found it in December 2010, just a few months after they morphed into a Q/A site with the name Ask.com!

by

Lol, T(h)ink and Virginia, I forgot about hopscotch and the jump rope.

:):D

by

Virginia, in this case, it was probably the site hosting "AskIt"; this nice, small community was closed down suddenly, and all the the Q & A discussions went lost.

by

@Marianne: Sorry but Ask.com was owned by a corporation and Askit was owned by Bruno from here. Ask.com closed the Q&A site in 2015 and became a third rate search engine. I don't know what happened to Bruno as I had asked him if he wanted to partner or sell it to me but I never heard from him again.

by

Rooster, thank you for your info.

What I found lately is an "askit.space": http://askit.space/9496/digging-a-hole?show=9500#a9500

(formerly, there was an error notice, and there are several different "askit" sites)

The last notification I received by e-mail was on October 6, 2016. We did not know what happened to Bruno.

Yep, they're called a Pod all right! To me? It's a buttload of whales and time to skedaddle from here! :D

by

Lol, Rooster - "pod" is correct. :D

This list is far from complete, but it is useful:
