A man in Florida, in his 80s, calls his son in New York one November day.

The father says to the son, “I hate to tell you, but we’ve got some troubles here in the house. Your mother and I can’t stand each other anymore, and we’re getting a divorce. I’ve had it! I want to live out the rest of my years in peace. I’m telling you now, so you and your sister shouldn’t go into shock later when I move out.”

He hangs up, and the son immediately calls his sister in the Hamptons and tells her the news. The sister says, “I’ll handle this.”

She calls Florida and says to her father, “Don’t do ANYTHING till we get there!

We’ll be there Wednesday night.”

The father agrees, “All right.”

The old man hangs up the phone and hollers to his wife, “Okay, they’re coming for Thanksgiving.
Now, what are we going to tell them for Christmas?”

Um... they could say Dad was given three months to live by his doctor.

Then Dad could go to Lourdes. :) :D

Lol, T(h)ink, I am not sure if the timing would work for Christmas; actually, a pilgrimage to Lourdes would be much nicer in Spring.

OK, Marianne, they could say four months.  :) :D

Lol, give him rather 6 months; that might allow a nice hiking holiday for the whole family - with the grandchildren ...

Ok, 6 months, but that's getting to be a little bit long, I think.  They might say, "Oh, he has plenty of time left. We'll skip Christmas and maybe visit for Easter." :O :ermm:  :) :D :P

Lol - o.k., T(h)ink, let's say 4 - 5 months and use Lourdes as the ultimate Easter excuse.

Oh, this one is quite poignant...signs of our times...

Indeed, parents and grandparents are struggling to arrange for seeing their overbusy children and grandchildren at least at the occasion of the great events meant for family celebrations, all the more, if the members of one family have to travel hundreds or even thousands of miles to see their parents, grandparents, siblings, children and grandchildren or other relatives.

Yes, and mobility is not always easy. :)
