No, but I once wrote to an Australian Prime minister and received a form letter in response. Then, the next Christmas, I received a card from him thanking me for "the kind thoughts" expressed during the year.
That was a bummer: I hadn't offered a single kind thought in my letter.
When we write to the nation's leaders we really need to realise that it's just a way of letting off steam and that, in most cases, the mail will be opened and responded to by a junior staffer. Individual politicians are a different kettle of fish and we're more likely to get a personal response -- especially on hot topics.
