Fortune is a bit of a stretch. Maternal grandfather was wealthy and when he died about 1945 his 12 children inherited his money. It wasn't divided equally and my mother must have been one of the less favoured. She received $600 which seemed like a fortune to a kid my age but was only a fraction of his wealth.
