When are people going to learn about Facebook and Twitter ? Anything you say is going public ! Although I agree she's ugly, I sure wouldn't have said "gorilla" . Then again, every time I see the avatar of this asker? I get the shivers !

Yeah, putting something like that on Facebook was almost as dumb as a crooked Secy of State putting classified information on her unsecured private server.

But the crooked Secy of State didn't have to worry about losing her job... in fact she'll likely get a promotion because the fix was in with the FBI and DOJ.

I'm usually opposed to people being fired for what they say online, but in this case I think it was the right call

Settlers are causing more violence in the region, and termite isn't used against Jews anywhere near as often as gorilla is used against black people

So if a group of people of a certain ethnicity do something you don't like, then it is ok to throw a relatively infrequently-used epithet at them, like Rep. Johnson did?

Gorilla is worse because it is more often used than termite?  Interesting logic.

Would it then follow that if anti-black racists started using more unusual epithets it would somehow become ok?

In that case, the obvious answer is that one should simply state his objections, and give reasoned arguments for his position, without the name-calling.

But of course, that is probably too much to ask from an individual who thought Guam might tip over if 8000 marines were stationed there.

And if you don't think 'almost like termites' was a good thing to say, why shouldn't Rep. Johnson of GA (same state the fired teacher's aide is from) be recalled, or failing that, at least be censured by the House?

There is no accounting for taste, but there is no need to insult anybody.

Too many people are prompt to judge individuals according to fashion trends, images and beauty standards, or rumours, opinions, half-truths and myths, without bothering to look "behind the scenes".

Shouldn't we look in our own backyard first?
