I've heard about this from a couple of Canadian friends. None of them are quite sure what to think about it. They also think because the Nurses and some other employees didn't get the wage increase that the Doctors are doing this to try and make fair pay conditions for all. I think it's a bunch of bull myself.

Is this Trudeau at work again?

Tink I did NOT know of this, and I am taking it seriously, with optimism...  ...and yes I DO think there is something special about Canada, a national spirit of altruism of sorts...my computer could not open your link ($%#@&!!!) but found this one: http://www.dailymirror.lk/article/Canadian-doctors-demand-lower-salaries-147006.html

...and noticed that this is coming from Quebec, a group with a French name although not sure French esprit has anything to do with it? Anyway, the doctors are the Médecins Québécois Pour le Régime Public. So, what if lots of people did that? Until we reach some kind of critical mass, tipping point it you will?

I myself am in poverty in my old age ONLY because I gave away all my retirement funds to good causes and good people; wanted to live close to the core of life. Sixteen years later, my only regret is that I hesitated so long and did not do it quicker. We all need to live our best beliefs, I choose to believe the Canadians are doing that here... This is also why I don't listen too seriously to Christians preaching to me; until they themselves walk their talk, follow the example of their own guy?

So, YAY CANADIANS!!!

Well, Virginia, perhaps I was being too cynical up above, and I can join you in hoping it is genuine, and that it will have some effect.  I have long thought that physicians (but not other health professionals) are overpaid in the US, and that hospital charges are outrageous (again, not because of the nurses, but because the conglomerate that owns the hospital is profiteering).

I can't sufficiently express how much I admire what you did, Virginia.  The parable of the widow's mite comes to mind, and tears to my eyes.

Unfortunately, I could not follow much of the news while in hospital, and without Internet - I am, somehow, surprised, but it is true that nurses, qualified caregivers, general practicioners and emergency physicians are often underpaid, too few, and working under extreme conditions (also here, in spite of their engagement, the caregiving personnel and assistants are facing very demanding working conditions).

Maybe that the well paid Canadian specialists did realise that such circumstances are harming the whole health sector.

Additionally, organisations like "Médecins sans frontières" (Doctors Without Borders), the Red Cross, etc., were created to help!
