Is there a way to remove only the carbon atoms from particles of carbon-based gas?

If carbon causes many clean atmospheric particles to conduct heat as a chemical reaction, is it possible to reverse the process, isolating the carbon? What chemical reactions can occur without bonding the carbon atoms to something else?

Preferably, I would like to know what process should remove only the carbon atoms from various carbon-based gas particles common in the atmosphere and compress them into pure carbon gas molecules into a solid molecular structure, or even into liquid for that matter.
